Hi Glen,

We survived another holiday season intact. Val went into hospital on Nov 26th for a knee replacement. While I'm  still driving, she has done really well in her rehab. This Friday she has an appointment with med doc to determine when she can start driving herself. Cheers for 2016. MV

Hi CAROLYN,

mY TYPING SKILLS are zero, but, regardless, should we be hopimg for the Sharks in NHA to the end (CANUCKS are 0/0 in this century past 2011). If you have time, send to Ross (they pay marginal golf with many Mulligans)

Not sure if this will work but.......

I got this link from Many. If you can open it, there is a treat in store for you. An extensive collection of photos of Vancouver and environs from back in the 70's. Great memory lane stuff! If you click on the top left pic to enlarge  it, you can then scroll through the rest. Good luck and enjoy! 👍👍.

I would love to open this, Eric but I can't for some reason--maybe because I'm using a tablet?   Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong--I tap on the upper left photo but nothing happens.  Thanks to you and Manny for this!

Hi Sue: I notice that Lewis can't read this note  - maybe you can tell him how to do it. I have the orginal on my other E-mail, but this does not help anyone. Thanks, Many

Hi Lewis, to see the pictures individually, I pasted the url into my browser http://www.michaeldecourcy.com/background-vancouver/project.htm

and then clicked on the first image. It came up in large view and I used the right arrow key to advance the pictures. I have a mac, hope that works on your machine.

Two young guys pushing 70 in their first, and probably last, Fondo. 129Km Penticton to Princeton. Temperature, a cool 36 degrees C. Some say you are never too old. BS!

Many thanks, Sue (and Manny) for trying to help me open this slide show.  Unfortunately it still won't open--maybe because I'm using my wife's tablet.  Once my PC comes back from the shop I'll give it a shot again.

Nice work, whoever put this together!

Kindest regards, Lewis

P.S. And good on you two (almost) 70 year-olds for your bike marathon.  Still good for it, obviously!

Remember 1965, the hills were alive with THE SOUND of MUSIC! Now not so much. Ross Ellison thought I should share this with you.

To commemorate her birthday , actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was 'My Favorite Things' from the legendary movie 'Sound Of Music'. Here are the lyrics she used:

FYI: If you sing it, it's especially hysterical!!!

Botox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts, hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes leak, When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Back pain, confused brains and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things.

When the joints ache, When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Good one, Jim; can we not all relate--to some if not all of the above (I think Ms. Andrews forgot "senior moments" in there)?  Thanks for sharing!

Hi Jim,

Great memories; but take care (Knox United we lived soccer for a couple of years). MV (talk to you later)

MV , thank you for mentioning the Knox United "powerhouse" with you , Jim, Laurie, myself and others.  I think you and I on the wing  and Laurie at center. Jim at half or fullback if my memory is working. Best, Greig

Hi Greig; Good job on elementary school soccer recap. But you forgot 2 guys. Gord Davis was on that team, starting full-back, with Jim, at Knox U,Gord also on our Grade 12 team at Magee. Also, we had Gordon Banks protege as our keeper: aka, the great, great, great, great grand son of Mr D Crockett. Mr Billy Crockett is still accepting accolades re his performance between the posts. Ta ta MV

Hi JIm, Was thinking about Knox United, and your presence as part-time full-back or keeper. I keep coming back (Grade 6, as I had packed in my career as the keeper in grade 5), but you had a great kick; unfortunately, you missed the opposition's striker, who, without much other than hope to survive your pummeling, headed the ball into our goal: I think we lost that one. Is this why you were our ref in Grade 12; or did the guys defending the New Zealand shield require your kicking??? Bill was our keeper in grade 12. Cheers, MV

Thanks for the memory bump Many! Mr. Crockett deserves the accolades , keeper extraordinaire , at Knox United , or in Grade 12.  And you are right, I think Jim was actually the original BigFoot!! For rugby or soccer!

Janet Mercer

Hi Jim:

Oh!  1965 - What a watershed year for all of us!  I had trouble remembering (and who doesn't) the tune and original lyrics....eventually it came.

I hope all is well with you. I'm enjoying my return back to the coast after many years in the Okanagan.  Nothing better than a little rain.

Janet

Janet, the true number one song of 1965 was "The Sewer Song". "We sing the song of the sewer, of the sewer we sing this song". I fondly remember rehearsing this song at your house for the Magee Night of Music. Many happy memories.
