Ross: Ken has had another stroke, and it's not good news. He has little mobility and can't talk. He's in hospital waiting for an assisted living place. Things here are business as usual, with daily phone calls to Erin, our daughter in Hamilton. Hope you're having good golf, good weather and good health in sunny California.

Thanks, Bill, for passing on the news. While Jim and I were not close friends, our paths crossed in many ways and in many places: Kerrisdale Elementary, Point Grey, Magee, and UBC.  We were opponent pitchers in the Kerrisdale Little League at Elm Park. I played soccer at Kerrisdale with Many Vaartnou and Greg Soohen (partner on defence). Later on, I was going to try out for the Knox United team, but my mother got wind of it, and enrolled me in Weekend Catholic religion classes. Jim was a true gentleman, and I hope his family can have fond memories for years to come.

The brightest lights cause the most anguish when extinguished.

He will not be forgotten in MANY communities.

Farewell and Godspeed, Eric.

This is news I NEVER wanted to hear.  Many & I were great friends at Kerrisdale Elementary & Point Grey Jr. High.  He got me interested in playing soccer,  baseball and basketball.  He was always the smartest, and probably the nicest kid in class.  When my mum found out I wanted to join Many and try out for the Knox United soccer team, I was somehow enrolled at Vancouver College, a Catholic school, for grades 8, 9, and 10.  Many and I remained friends at Magee, but not close ones.  He was way brighter than I and was on the accelerated grade 13 program.  A bright light has gone out, and he will be missed.

I enjoyed shooting hoops with Marty, and he was a welcome addition to the Friday Night Poker Games at our house on Wiltshire Street.  Godspeed, Martin.
